Cleaning Green

Article by Cecilia Christodoulou

Have you ever considered using environmentally friendly, safe and all natural cleaning products when giving your home the big spring clean? Most commercial household cleaning products will contain unwanted ingredients, which are harmful to your skin, body, spirit and environment.

When you use alternative cleaning methods that are all natural and environmentally friendly there is no need for any concoction of unwanted toxins, solvents or bleaches. These cleaning methods are less harmful to the environment, they help minimise our natural land from deteriorating and reduce polluting our water.

Alternative cleaning methods are a safer and healthier choice when cleaning up your home. The air that you breathe is better for your children, pets and yourself.

Using alternative cleaning methods can be very cost effective and simple to use. Following are some ideas to consider when giving your home a spring clean:

Getting rid of unwanted carpet odours
Sprinkle some baking soda onto your carpet, leave for 5 minutes then vacuum the carpet as usual.

Cleaning windows and mirrors around the house
Pour some white vinegar into a spray bottle and fill the rest with hot water, spray onto the surface and wipe with a lint free rag.

Getting rid of unwanted odour in the Microwave
Fill a glass bowl with water, squeeze the juice from two large lemons into the bowl. Place the bowl into the microwave and set for half an hour.

Bathroom cleaning
Sprinkle some baking soda onto the surfaces you wish to clean, grab a scouring sponge and rub on the surfaces, then rinse with some water and wipe dry.

Mopping the floor
Fill a tub with hot water, add some baking soda, add a few drops of natural essences eg sandalwood or eucalyptus, grab the mop and gently mop the floor, leave to let dry.
